What is BS EN 61010-1:2010+A1:2019?
BS EN61010-1:2010+A1:2019, or BS EN61010 for short, is a safety standard for electrical equipment for measurement, control, and laboratory use. This is a safety standard rather than a performance standard, so this does not affect the performance of the device at all.
There are a multitude of devices that can be approved to the BS EN61010 standard; almost exclusively consisting of electrical test and measurement equipment including equipment integrated into manufacturing processes and intended for testing manufactured devices. The scope of such devices includes but is not limited to: Transducers, transmitters, sensors, and related power supplies. Other equipment includes those which measures, monitors, inspects or analyses. The standard also applies to computers and processors which form part of the equipment and designed exclusively for use with such the equipment.

Does this Standard Apply in My Country?
BS EN 61010 also applies to various countries across Europe and internationally. Although the name BS EN is specifically a British standard, it also translates to the UL and CSA standards of the same code. Thus, if you live anywhere outside of the UK, you can be sure that your IGD system is approved to the highest safety standards for your country’s regulations.[/cws_sc_text][cws_sc_text]
What does this Standard Mean for Me?
This standard means that any of the hazards listed below are reduced to a minimum particularly for system operators as well as personnel in the surrounding area.
Hazards reduced:
- Electrical shock or burn
- Mechanical hazards
- Spread of fire from the equipment
- Excessive temperature
- Effects of fluids and fluid pressure
- Liberated gases explosion and implosion
- Effects of radiation
This ensures that your IGD gas detection system is approved to the highest standard of safety requirements.
